Coach Roz

Known to thousands as Coach Roz, Rosalyn Harris has spent her life helping others lose weight and keep it off.

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Lakewood, New Jersey, I started my first diet at age 15. I regained every pound I lost, and more. I did Weight Watchers at Florida A & M University’s School of Business & Industry, and again working at Goldman Sachs in New York City. Then it was Phen Fen while working in Phoenix, and Atkins while earning my MBA in The Darden School of Business, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia.

So finally in 2000, I had just gotten a great corporate job, I had great family and friends. But I was overweight and failing at so many attempts to lose the weight. It was humiliating being the fattest associate on the team at my job, humiliating putting on all of this weight around family from the year before. I was the fattest cousin.

I knew how to lose weight (see above diets) – Eat less food, move more. I had done this 6-7 times before. Count calories, eat better, move more. But I didn’t know how to MAINTAIN A WEIGHT LOSS. “How do I not just lose weight, but maintain a weight loss? Keep the weight off forever?!” That question changed my life.

Fueled by this question, I spent the next year researching and reading and learning about people who had lost the weight and kept it off. What was the secret sauce? Well, I figured it out because I lost 90 pounds (cue the Hallelujah chorus) and have kept it off for the last 14 years!

At this point, I’ve spent 10 years and refining – exactly how to get the weight off and keep it off. I’ve failed and struggled along the way and learned important do’s and don’ts. Of course there’s the practical things every knows to be fit and happy but there is this intangible thing that nobody really talks about and is the foundation of all of this. We are smart women – I graduated top of my class from Darden! If keeping the weight off was just about knowing the information, I’d be passing with flying colors! But it’s more than that isn’t it? It’s a lifestyle and mindset shift. I had to really get that deep down in my spirit and once I did, everything changed for me.
